Abstract
This article presents the development of a fault prediction system for rechargeable
lithium-ion batteries using artificial neural networks. Methodologically, a technological
development approach with a quantitative and experimental data-driven design is
adopted, employing records from the Battery Prognostics Data Set developed by the
Prognostics Center of Excellence at NASA Ames Research Center. Operational
variables such as voltage, current, temperature, and cycle number were selected for
supervised training. The model was designed as a multilayer perceptron neural
network implemented in Keras and TensorFlow, trained to estimate capacity as a
continuous variable of the State of Health (SoH). Failure was defined under the
standard technical criterion of a drop below 70% of the original capacity. The
evaluation of the system contrasted the results using a traditional split (Hold-Out
80/20) and a cross-validation strategy leaving one battery out (LOBO-CV). This project
demonstrates the potential of neural networks for the intelligent monitoring of
batteries, providing a useful technological tool for predictive maintenance and
decision-making.
